We started out in 1993 as the Gulf War Veterans of Kansas.During this time we worked to get passed the state legislations that formed the Persian Gulf War Health Initiative Advisory Board. The group went back to the state house to get an additional $150K for the program.
The statute also directed a study to be done on the health affects the war had on the Kansas veterans. The studies finding was so ground breaking, that it caused the VA and the DOD to do a 180 degree turn how it was handling Gulf war illness. For more on what was found please read the mailing we sent out to the veterans in Kansas. All of this with little to no help from the other veterans group in Kansas.
We worked and did Project Honor for the tenth year anniversary of the ceasefire.
At this time, the membership started to grow and included veterans out side of Kansas too. That is when we incorporated as the Veteran Information Network. Some of our email still will show the @Kansasvets.org, but we are for all veterans and any one that want to help them my join.
